I’ve been blogging about skincare a lot recently so I thought it was about time to change it up and talk about makeup! I found it much more difficult to switch to “natural” makeup than skincare products. A good concealer that doesn’t have horrible ingredients is something I struggle with most, especially as I have such lovely dark under-eye circles to cover up (thanks genetics!)
I bought the Lily Lolo Mineral Concealer (£7.29) and Concealer Brush (£5.99) back in February 2013, used it for a few weeks then somehow forgot all about it and only rediscovered it again a few months later!
I actually really like the Concealer Brush. It’s made from soft synthetic hair (which hasn’t shed at all) and it’s just the right size for filling in around the eyes and other smaller areas like around the nose. It picks up a good amount of product too and I’m sure it would work well for blending other cream or liquid concealers too.
For the concealer, I have the shade “Barely Beige” which is Lily Lolo’s second lightest shade. The other shades are “Blondie” (very pale), “Nude” (light-medium) and “Caramel” (medium). I’ve not tried the others but I’m pretty sure “Barely Beige” is just right for me.
It comes in a little 5g pot with a handy lockable sifter to make sure you don’t go spilling it everywhere! To use you just need to sprinkle a small amount into the lid, swirl the a brush around in it, tap off the excess and start lightly layering the concealer where you need it with small buffing motions. It does have buildable coverage too so it’s great for any particularly dark areas or blemishes.
I thought the best way to show you how this concealer fares is to do a before and after comparison with a slightly (very!) creepy close up of my eye! As you can tell it makes a big difference and certainly stops me from looking like I’ve been punched in the face!
Usually, I would apply foundation before concealer as it can cover blemishes and dark circles to a certain extent so you need less concealer, but for the purposes of this photo I didn’t apply any foundation first. I love the soft matte finish this concealer gives and I’m really happy with the coverage as it looks so natural and lasts most of the day.
It’s ideal for days when I’m only wearing mineral makeup and going for a more natural look – it stops me looking too much like a zombie! I think it’s a pretty reasonable price for a concealer that actually works for me too and has such simple ingredients.
