It took such a long time to find a natural foundation that I love. I was all about the high street / drugstore liquid foundations before “going green”, so I tried a few natural liquid foundation samples only to find that I didn’t really like any of them enough. I was pretty reluctant to try mineral foundation at first, but when I tried a sample of Inika’s Mineral Foundation towards the end of last year it instantly converted me!
As I’m almost finished my first pot of this foundation, I think it’s probably about time I do a proper review after the brief mention in my everyday makeup essentials earlier this year! If you haven’t heard of Inika before, they specialise in luxury natural cosmetics and are vegan, certified cruelty free and half of their range is certified organic. Already sounding pretty great right?!
I have their mineral foundation in the shade Unity (swatch here) – a neutral beige for light to medium-light skin tones. It’s actually the only natural foundation shade I’ve found so far that’s a perfect match for me! It’s a finely milled mineral powder with SPF15 which comes packaged in a little plastic pot. To use, you just tip some powder into the lid and use a kabuki brush (or I use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush) to apply. You can use light strokes for a more subtle look, or circular buffing motions for a slightly heavier, buildable coverage.
Considering this is a powder foundation, it provides surprisingly good coverage. I find it blends out any uneven skin tone and pigmentation, making you look like you have naturally flawless skin! I love that you can use more or less to suit your skin and it’s buildable in light layers. It also doubles up as a mineral concealer which I often use on a smaller brush for a little extra coverage when I need it.
There are only two little downsides to this foundation for me. One is that it doesn’t have a lockable sifter (so it’s a little annoying to take travelling or if you drop it as it can get everywhere!) and the other is the price. It definitely has a more luxury price point at £27.50, but it’s often discounted online and I bought mine from Naturisimo for about £24. The only other mineral foundation I’ve tried is from Lily Lolo which is half the price, but I didn’t find it worked as well for me. Personally I think Inika is worth the price for the superior performance and I’ll be happily purchasing this again!
