It’s not often that I finish up a selection of products at once, especially since I’ve started focusing more on conscious consumerism and reducing the number of products I regularly use it tends to be quite a gradual process, but every now and then I seem to finish off a bunch of products at once! I always enjoy reading empties reviews as you can really get a proper idea of how a product has performed over time. There’s quite a broad selection in my empties stash this time with several natural makeup products (posted on Instagram @naturiabeauty), along with body, dental and haircare products too.
Inika Organic Liquid Foundation & Lip Tint
This is the only natural liquid foundation so far that I’ve actually liked! To be fair I’ve only ever tried a small handful of natural liquid foundations over the years though as I’m generally really happy using mineral foundation! This one gives a buildable light-medium coverage so ideal for daily use and it has some really great ingredients too. I mostly used it with their mineral foundation layered over the top for extra coverage. You can check out my previous in-depth review with swatches of the Cream and Beige shades here.
Inika’s Lip Tint in the shade Candy is easily my most worn lip product! It’s a nude pinkish shade with a slightly metallic sheen. It feels like a lip balm to wear and I’ve been though several of these over the years… a forever repurchase! You can read more reviews of Inika’s natural and organic makeup products in my Inika Brand Spotlight.
Jane Iredale Basic Black Eye Pencil
Way back when I first started switching to cleaner makeup products, Jane Iredale’s Eye Pencil was one of my very first discoveries and is still regularly has a space in my makeup bag all those years later! It’s one of only a few eyeliners I can wear on my waterline without any irritation. It’s all used up to the point where it won’t fit in the sharpener anymore! I’m sure this will be repurchased again in the future, but for now I have a few other eyeliner products to get through first.
Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mascara
This is another product that I’ve used a fair few times over the years. I go for the Supernova Black shade as it’s super pigmented and can easily be built up to full on bold lashes if you like the more dramatic look! For the day to day I stick to one or two coats for some added length and volume. I find it really long lasting on the lashes too which is perfect for when I’m running around after a toddler all day! I always love trying out different mascaras so I’ve currently moved on to Lily Lolo Big Lash Mascara.
KIKI Health Magnesium Oil Spray
Magnesium is such an important mineral that the majority of people are actually deficient in as it is easily depleted when the body is under stress and most of us unfortunately do not get enough through foods. It’s essential for so many biochemical processes in the body, but a magnesium oil spray is great to use for muscle relaxation, particularly after exercise. Kiki Health are a high quality brand that make use of potent ingredients to maximise the effects. You’ll know if you’re deficient in magnesium if you experience a tingling sensation when using this spray. This product really works to relax achy muscles and I love using it before bed too as it find it really helps the body to relax. I’ve already repurchased this one!
Georganics English Peppermint Toothpaste
Georganics have a great range of low-waste/plastic-free dental care products. This fluoride-free toothpaste is packaged in a glass jar instead of a traditional plastic tube so at first it took a little getting used to scooping out the toothpaste with a little spatula, but it soon becomes second nature. It has a mineral-rich formula which is said to help promote remineralisation of the teeth. It’s also non-foaming so that’s something to consider if you’re used to foaming toothpastes! Just remember: bubbles do not equal clean! Although it worked well and leaves teeth feeling clean without that filmy feeling, I did find it a little too clay-like for my preferences so I’m still on the hunt for my ideal natural toothpaste! I love their floss though and I already use their Oil Pulling Mouthwash regularly too.
Schmidt’s Sensitive Deodorant
I first tried Schmidt’s deodorants way back when they launched as an indie brand with their deodorant jars (reviewed here). They expanded to include the traditional stick format too which I definitely prefer for ease of use. The Fragrance Free Sensitive Deodorant Stick worked really well for me and I used it for a couple of years but I’m now on the look out for a different replacement since learning about Schmidt’s being acquired by Unilever – a company who’s values don’t align with my own. I encourage you to do your own research as always!
Lavera Freshness & Balance Shampoo
I’ve been using this Lavera shampoo a good couple of years now as it’s a really budget-friendly option at £6.95. If you follow me on Instagram you might remember I’ve mentioned how I only wash my hair once a week, so a bottle of shampoo lasts me a lot longer than most! This shampoo helps to balance the hair and scalp but I think the formula has recently changed so we’ll see if it still works well. I’m keen to try a plastic-free shampoo when my next bottle runs out as I’m always looking for small changes I can make to help the environment! Read more about why plastic is a problem in my guide to plastic-free beauty.
