Something I’ve always found a bit strange is how mascara often has an overpowering scent. Even natural mascara is usually scented with potent essential oils which can be irritating to sensitive eyes. I realised a couple of months ago that it could be the added fragrance that can sometimes make my eyes water! Living Nature have recently reformulated their mascara to exclude lavender oil, making their Thickening Mascara* completely fragrance-free.
This mascara is all natural and free from synthetics, containing nourishing ingredients such as candelilla and carnauba waxes, jojoba esters and manuka honey, along with halloysite clay to thicken the lashes. It comes packaged in a recyclable box that contains no toxins or elemental chlorine bleaches and is made with wood pulp from renewable forests. The mascara itself is in a sleek and simple matte black tube with Living Nature’s logo printed on the top of the lid. I went for the black version, but it’s also available in brown if you prefer a more subtle look!
Although this is called a thickening mascara, I would actually describe it more so as a lengthening mascara! I really like the long thin brush as it makes it so easy to get to the inner lashes without smudging all over your eyelid – something I often manage to do with thicker mascara wands! One coat gives a subtle effect with extra length to the lashes, as well as a jet black colour, but I love to build it up to two or three coats for a little extra drama. I’m happy to say this mascara doesn’t irritate my eyes at all and lasts all day without smudging or flaking. The only caveat for me is the £21 price tag which is quite a bit more than I would usually pay, but when you think about the high-quality ingredients and split the cost over 3 months of use I think it could be justified, especially if you have a larger budget!
Living Nature is available from Botanical Brands and various online retailers, including LoveLula.
