I’ve been using the Essential Care (Odylique) Mineral Mascara for quite a while now (you might remember I briefly mentioned it a couple of times before) so this review is long overdue! This is by far the “cleanest” mascara I’ve tried so far, formulated with 88% organic (certified by the Soil Association) and 100% natural ingredients. I have the black shade, but there’s also a brown version available too. Mineral pigments are used to give the colour and plant extracts like aloe vera, calendula and sea buckthorn help to condition and define the lashes without irritating the eyes.
If you love a natural look when it comes to your lashes, this mascara would be perfect for you! Personally, I tend to only use this when I’m after minimal effort and a very subtle daytime look as I found it’s not particularly buildable, even with a few coats. It dries quickly once applied and has surprisingly good lasting power, staying put all day for me with no clumping, smudging or flaking. It also leaves my lashes feeling soft and it’s really easy to remove too, using an oil or balm cleanser.
I’ve done a few mascara reviews in the past, but never managed to take a photo of how it actually looks on the lashes. I always find it so helpful when other people include swatches in their reviews though, so this time I persevered to get a nice close-up shot of my eyeballs for you 😉 In the photo you can see the subtle effects of one coat.
At a price of £17.50 (available from Odylique or Big Green Smile), this mascara is a little outside of my budget to be a regular purchase, especially as I do prefer something more volumising and buildable, although I can definitely appreciate this price reflects the high quality of ingredients. I’m craving a more dramatic mascara for my next purchase, but I’ve enjoyed using this mascara for general daytime wear to give a little natural looking definition and length to my usually “barely-there” lashes!
Do you like a mascara that gives a more subtle effect? Have you tried this mascara before?
