Botanicals are an award winning skincare company with products that are 100% natural and certified organic by the Soil Association, the UK’s largest organic certification body. I was recently sent some samples to test out from the Botanicals facial range (5g pots of the chamomile deep cleansing melt and skin polish and 5ml bottles of the skin tonic and facial serum) so I thought I would share my initial thoughts after using these products.
The Chamomile Deep Cleansing Melt* is designed to penetrate the skin’s lower layers. It’s full of natural oils to dissolve make-up/impurities (whilst ensuring the skin’s natural balance is retained) and has a very subtle scent. I love that this product is so highly concentrated that you only need to use a small amount, and you can certainly tell this cleansing melt contains lots of natural plant oils. I’d never used an oil based cleanser before so this was a new experience for me. It seemed a little strange at first applying a greasy substance to my face and I was almost certain it would leave me with an oily residue on my skin, but I was pleasantly surprised with how easily it was removed with a hot cloth. My face felt lovely and soft afterwards! I know 5g may not seem very much but it lasted me a good 5-6 applications so more than enough to get a feel for the product!
The Chamomile Skin Polish* is similar to the cleansing melt, but with the addition of rose hip kernel to help exfoliate dead skin cells. This is my favourite out of these four products and I’m definitely adding it to my wish list, although a 50g jar of this will set me back £18.50 so I won’t be buying it just yet! I fell in love with it straight away as it’s such a gentle exfoliating cleanser. I’m not usually one to say things like this but my skin genuinely looked and felt wonderful (clearer, brighter and softer) after using this!
I’ve been using the Chamomile Skin Tonic* just on a cotton pad and sweeping over my face and neck as a toner after cleansing, but it can also be used as a gentle morning cleanser. It has a much stronger scent than the cleansing melt and skin polish which won’t be everyone’s cup of tea (lavender and chamomile as far as I can tell). It doesn’t make your skin feel tight like some toners do and I found it really refreshing.
The final product that was sent to me is the Chamomile Facial Serum* which happens to be the only product out of the lot that I unfortunately didn’t like the smell of. At first it smelt similar to the skin tonic but as I started massaging it into my face the scent of the other oils in the serum were released – I’m not sure what exactly it was that I didn’t like, possibly the apricot kernel oil. Scent is all down to personal preference though; maybe I just have a sensitive nose! It’s still a great product as it really leaves your skin looking rejuvenated. I personally wouldn’t purchase this serum just because I’m not a fan of strong scents!
