I’m sure you’ll agree that any household would be incomplete without some kind of soap in the bathroom and kitchen. Not the most glamorous of beauty products but an essential all the same! Soap was one of the first things I switched when turning to more natural products as it’s one of those things that is used multiple times a day. Aside from that, the conventional soaps containing SLS were irritating the eczema on my hands and seemed to be making the annoying little outbreaks more frequent.
The first natural soap I used was Lavera’s Basis Sensitive Organic Calendula and Witch Hazel Soap (£3.95) and for a long time it was a regular repurchase. As much as I love it though, I thought it was about time to give something else a try. I spotted the Avalon Organics Lemon Glycerin Hand Soap on a trip to Whole Foods and could hardly say no to something lemon scented!
Avalon Organics are a US based brand that have created a range of products using vegetarian, cruelty free natural botanical ingredients. They also use environmentally friendly packaging – this soap bottle is made with 100% recycled materials and is recyclable once finished.
In terms of performance it produces a nice lather, smells just like lemons and doesn’t dry out my hands at all. I would even go as far to say that it may have helped the eczema on my hands – I haven’t had an outbreak since I’ve been using this soap! Whether that’s just a coincidence or a combination of the soap, other skincare items and less stress I don’t know (but I’m leaning towards the latter!).
This soap is also available in 3 other scents: Lavender, Peppermint and Rosemary. I think I’ll be sticking to the Lemon for a while, but definitely want to try the Peppermint at some point!
