Dry shampoo is a life-saver on those days where your hair is starting to look a little greasy, but you don’t have the time for washing it. I’ve tried a fair few naturally formulated dry shampoos over the years and Captain Blankenship Mermaid Dry Shampoo is one of the best!
The brand is named after the founder, Jana Blankenship, who strives for luxurious hair and skincare products that encompass the wildness of nature. Captain Blankenship are also eco and socially conscious, supporting farmers and donating 1% of profits to conservation initiatives. They’re certified cruelty-free with Leaping Bunny and use organic ingredients wherever possible. They’re also free from synthetic preservatives, parabens, sulfates or artificial “fragrance”.
Captain Blankenship Mermaid Dry Shampoo is talc-free and made with organic arrowroot powder and kaolin clay to mattify greasy hair. It also contains aluminium-free baking soda to absorb oils and freshen the hair. The all natural scent of organic rose geranium and palmarosa essential oils is really lovely and uplifting which is ideal for those lacklustre days!
To use, you just sprinkle a little of the powder on your hands or directly onto roots and work it through with your fingers. I like to make sure I flip the hair and apply some underneath the parting too for added volume and then brush through. It gets to work absorbing excess oils quickly and leaves my hair looking freshly washed!
You can easily use this a couple of times a week without worrying about damaging you hair and scalp, unlike aerosol dry shampoos. The powder is also fine enough that you don’t get left with that gritty feeling on your scalp and avoids a dusty look on my light brown/dark blonde hair. Any residue is completely washed away when it comes to hair wash day.
I picked up the smaller 2.4oz/68g for £14. It’s packaged in a recyclable cardboard tube with a plastic lid dispenser. I’ve used it at least once a week for a few months and still have plenty left! It’s also available in a larger 4.8oz/136g tube if you like to use your dry shampoo more frequently.
I think this is one of the best natural dry shampoos and I totally recommend checking it out if you’re looking for one that actually works! It’s brilliant for extending time between washes, freshening up the hair and adding a little volume too.
