As more of us become conscious of ways to live more sustainably, plastic-free swaps are often top of the list! I’ve written about another plastic-free natural deodorant before, but I also want to introduce you to Wild Deodorant. You may have seen this brand pop up a lot across social media. Not only is their formula based with vegan-friendly natural ingredients, they’ve gone a step further and created a sustainable and refillable natural deodorant with 100% compostable and plastic-free refills.
The concept behind Wild Deodorant is an effective, low-waste, sustainable, convenient and stylish deodorant made without the ingredients you should be keen to avoid such as parabens and aluminium. Just in case you weren’t already aware of the problems with aluminium in particular, I’ll give you a quick run-through….
Why you should choose natural deodorant over anti-perspirant
Aluminium salts are often included in mainstream anti-perspirants, which temporarily block the sweat glands. Although preventing perspiration may reduce odour, sweating is an essential bodily function that we shouldn’t be suppressing. There’s also been studies suggesting links between aluminium-based anti-perspirants and conditions such as Alzheimer’s and some types of cancer. This is one of those areas where I encourage you to start digging and do some research!
Remember that sweating is a natural process and plays an important part in removing toxins from the body and helps regulate body temperature too. Natural deodorants allow the body to sweat, but help to prevent bacteria (and therefore odours) forming. For this reason, I personally choose deodorants over anti-perspirants to support the body’s natural functions.

How Wild Deodorant Works
You can buy Wild Deodorant as either a subscription service or a one-off purchase, or in person at some Sainsbury’s stores across the UK. You start off by choosing a colour for your re-usable case (aqua, black, purple, coral or silver). The case is made from aluminium and a small amount post-consumer recycled plastic and designed to last a lifetime to avoid single-use plastic, unlike many mainstream deodorants. Once you’ve picked a colour, there’s a few different purchase options:
- A subscription starter pack for £12 with your choice of case and one refill. You can personalise your case for an extra £2 too. One month later, you then pay for a pack of 3 refills at £5 each (£15 total). Each refill is said to last for about 1 month, but you can choose your subscription frequency (every 2, 3 or 4 months). There’s no minimum contract and you can cancel anytime.
- You can also make a one-off “Full Monty” purchase for £32 with a case and 5 refills,
- Or a standard one off purchase for £25 with a case and 3 refills.
Orders are delivered in slimline packaging that fits through your letterbox. I chose the standard one-off purchase with a coral case and 3 refills with a discount from Lu at A Life of Lovely (keep reading to the end as I have discount code for you too)! I felt like this was the best value for me as I’m actually not a big sweater so only use deodorant on days when I know I’ll be more active! It’s also a great chance to try 3 different scents – I chose Coconut Dreams, Lavender Haze and Bergamot Rituals as these are the more subtle scents from the range.
At the time of writing, the other scents available include Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt, Jasmine & Mandarin Blossom, Orange Zest, Mint & Eucalyptus and Sandalwood & Patchouli. They also have limited edition scents throughout the year. Once you have a case, you can make a mix-and-match purchase your choice of refills anytime without a subscription in packs of 3, 6 or 9 for £6 per refill (or £5 per refill with a subscription). Refills are entirely plastic-free and made from bamboo pulp which is 100% recyclable as paper/card or home compostable too.

Wild Natural Deodorant Review
I really like the concept of a refillable natural deodorant and I’ve never come across one like this before! The case has a luxe feel to it and looks fab on display in your bathroom cabinet or dressing table! It’s also really easy to add a refill to the case. Just make sure the base is twisted all the way down to the bottom, then push the buttons on either side of the case and pull out the base from the bottom. Next, you take the lid off the refill and push it into place on the base before putting the case back together. Then to use, it’s just as easy as your standard twist-up deodorant stick!
I know what you’re really interested in is if this natural, refillable deodorant really works?! I’ve been putting it to the test and using this deodorant exclusively for the past 6+ weeks now. For context, my usual days involve chasing after an energetic toddler, but I wouldn’t consider myself a heavy sweater! I’ve already been using natural deodorants for years now, but bear in mind that if it’s your first time using natural deodorant, especially after using anti-perspirants, it can take your body a couple of weeks to adjust!

I find this deodorant is really effective and it has a much smoother consistency than other natural deodorants I’ve tried over the years. It’s sodium bicarbonate based but doesn’t irritate my skin at all. A little really goes a long way and you literally only need a couple of swipes to last all day. It also doesn’t leave any marks or stains on my clothes which is always a win!
The scents Lavender Haze and Coconut Dreams are my favourites so far. I love that they’re subtle but you can still just about catch them throughout the day too. I would consider Bergamot Rituals to be a unisex scent and if you prefer a stronger scent I would check out one of the stronger scents like Mint & Eucalyptus. I’m also going to get my other half to give Wild a try too so look out for an update sharing a sweatier male perspective of this deodorant too!
I’ve been really pleased with my experience with Wild deodorant and would definitely recommend checking them out if you’re looking for a more sustainable and refillable deodorant option. Wild are also working on offsetting carbon emissions by contributing a percentage of their sales to ‘On A Mission‘ which supports sustainable reforestation projects.
