My sample stash nowadays is much smaller than it used to be, but I always love trying out mini samples as it’s a great way to see how a product works without committing to a full-size purchase. It’s particularly helpful with makeup samples for colour matching. Makeup samples from some brands can be hard to come by, but I found these Alima Pure Satin Matte Foundation minis at Naturisimo and decided to give them a try as my usual favourite (Inika Loose Mineral Foundation – reviewed here) is almost finished.
For reference, my foundation shade is usually a generic light neutral tone but I often have the issue of shades either being too light, too dark or too warm with no additional options in between. Luckily Alima Pure have a decent selection of shades – a much wider variety than some other brands anyway!
I chose the shades Beige 1 & Beige 2 which are described as having equal pink and yellow undertones for fair and light skin. Ideally I was looking to try the shades Neutral 1 & 2 instead, but they were out of stock at the time so I figured I’d try these anyway for £2.50 as they are still considered neutral shades but just slightly warmer.
Alima Pure Satin Matte Foundation Swatches
As you can see from the swatches, there’s actually quite a jump in shade from 1 to 2. Neither shade is quite right for me but mixed together is a much better match, although still a little on the warm side for me so I think I’ll have to try those Neutral shades when they’re back in stock again. Never a dull moment when trying to colour match foundation!
It does have a really lovely soft finish on the skin and a light but buildable coverage which is exactly what I look for in a foundation, so here’s hoping I can get the right colour match next time!
